Later in Life (50+) Entrepreneurs

The second and more recent target audience is those over 50 who want to start a business for the first time later in life but have no prior experience of doing so.

A specialist programme has been developed, the first of its kind in New Zealand. It has been built on the findings of a key research project that identified in detail the unique starting position of “senior entrepreneurs” (50+ years old) in New Zealand and their preferred ways of learning.

This new ‘Starting a Business Later in Life Programme’ received initial grants from the Office for Seniors in conjunction with Selwyn District Council for two pilots to be undertaken. The plan is to role the programme out to national and, potentially, international audiences.

The aim of the Programme is to turn each participant’s own idea into their new business venture.

  • Is my idea worth pursuing?
  • Should I bother at my stage of life?
